Coffee Shops Near Amsterdam Attractions

If you are looking for a good cup of coffee during your trip to Amsterdam, have no fear.  The city offers some of the best coffee in the world, and some of its best coffee shops near to some of its biggest attractions.  Each part of the city offers its own delightful treasures, ranging from traditional to avant garde.  It is worth mentioning that in Amsterdam, there is a big difference between a coffee shop and a coffee house.  If you are looking for a cup of coffee, ask for a coffee house.  Coffee shops in Amsterdam offer a different kind of menu. Whatever your tastes, there are sure to be excellent coffee shops near to any of the popular sights in Amsterdam on your list.

Coffee Shops Near the Anne Frank House

Sweet Cup: Located on Lange Leidsedwarsstraat (www.sweetcupcafe.com), Sweet Cup is owner operated and described as cozy with a friendly atmosphere.  If you are an animal lover, this may be the place for you, as the owner regularly brings his dog to work.  You can get a great cup of coffee (and free tail wags!) Wednesday to Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM.

Screaming Beans: Only a few blocks from the Anne Frank House, is Screaming Beans (www.screamingbeans.nl), on Hartenstraat.  This shop boasts great coffee drinks, friendly staff, and is a favorite among locals.  If you are looking for an in-house roast, this is the coffee house for you.  Hours are Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM.

Coffee & Juices: Of all the coffee shops near the Anne Frank House, Coffee & Juices (www.coffeeandjuices.nl) is a bit further out, but well worth the trip.  This coffee house is another small owner operated affair.  Located on Hugo de Grootplein, Coffee & Juices offers earlier hours than some other coffee houses.   Open Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 8:30 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday 9 AM to 5 PM.

Cafe de Oude Wester: Less than two blocks from the Anne Frank House on Rozengracht is the Cafe de Oude Wester.  Described as a great place to stop after an emotional visit to the monument, this small cafe offers great coffee and beautiful views.  A “brown” cafe, Oude Wester serves Dutch favorites for brunch, lunch or dinner. Hours of operation are 10 AM to 11 PM daily.

Coffee Shops Near the Van Gogh Museum

Coffee Concepts: Coffee Concepts (www.coffeeconcepts.co) on Jacob Obrechtstraat is not your typical coffee shop.  They are also a PR firm, and a great place to grab a sandwich for lunch.  It’s also a superb location to get some work done or pick up some art.  Coffee concepts offers work spaces and an art gallery to its customers.  Hours are 8 AM to 5 PM Monday to Friday, and 10 AM to 5 PM Saturday and Sunday.

Back to Black: This is another one of the coffee shops near the Van Gogh Museum that is also an art gallery.  Back to Black (www.backtoblackcoffee.nl) endeavors to keep things local and sustainable.  They offer locally roasted coffees and handmade accessories 8 AM to 6 PM during the week, and 9 AM to 5 PM weekends.

Bagels & Beans:  Bagels & Beans (www.bagelsbeans.nl/nl) has several locations throughout the city, all a good place to make a pit stop while traveling around Amsterdam.  The shop on Van Baerlestraat is the closest to the museum brags friendly employees, a clean environment and good value.  Hours 8 AM to 5:30 PM Monday to Friday, and 9 AM to 5:30 Pm Saturday and Sunday.

Coffee Shops Near the Rembrandt House Museum

Betty Blue:  Located on Snoekjessteeg, this is the perfect place to grab a coffee before hitting the Rembrandt House.  Betty Blue (www.bettyblueamsterdam.nl) is open Monday to Saturday 8:30 AM to 6 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 6 PM.  This coffee house in the Museum district brings a hip and modern atmosphere, with delicious breakfast, lunch, cakes and pastries.

Filter: Filter (www.filteramsterdam.nl), on Valkenburgerstraat, is an adorably modern coffee house with a great sense of humor.  They focus on local, sustainable and organic products, and make delightful treats in house daily.  Filter is open 8 AM to 5 PM weekdays, and 9 AM to 6 PM weekends.

KOKO: KOKO Coffee & Design is not just a coffee house.  Located on Oudezijds Achterburgwal, their other products include artwork, jewelry and fashion.  They are open 9 AM to 6 PM Tuesday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM Monday and Saturday, and noon to 6 PM on Sunday.  You can buy exclusive gifts at their website, ilovekoko.com, any time.

Coffee Shops in the Jordaan District

Moods Coffee Corner: This cafe is the perfect place for the environmentally conscious.  Moods (www.themoods.eu) claims to be Europe’s first carbon neutral cafe, and offers a laid-back atmosphere and wonderful hot beverages.  Located on Lindengracht, they are open 9 AM to 3 PM Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM Saturday, and 9 AM to 4:30 PM Sunday.

Cafe de Blaffende Vis: This restaurant is worth a visit while exploring the markets of the Jordaan.  Blaffende Vis, located on Westerstraat, is a typical “brown” cafe that serves Dutch favorites to locals and visitors alike.  Open from 8:30 AM to 1 AM Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 3 AM Friday, and Sunday 9 AM 1 AM, this establishment offers plenty of opportunities to stop in and enjoy.

Cloud Gallery Amsterdam: Of all the coffee shops near to Amsterdam attractions, Cloud Gallery (www.cloudamsterdam.com) is a must visit for any art and coffee lovers alike.  This coffee house and gallery hosts contemporary art exhibitions and serves top notch coffee, tea and treats.  Open weekdays 8 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 9 Am to 6 PM, and Sunday 10 AM to 6 PM.  Cloud Gallery is nestled in the heart of Amsterdam on Prinsengrach.
